Sneak Peek...

So progress is going great on my short film.. There are still some thing I don't like about the film, but there are a lot of things I really enjoy about it. It's been a lot of hard work, but the end is coming near. We only have a week and a half left at Animation Mentor.. I'm going to try to final as much shots as I can before that, but I'm sure there will be some additional polishing afterwards. (and then off course texturing and lighting the damn thing.. I really hate doing that, so I'm not looking forward to it). Anyway, just wanted to share a sneak peek of the film with you..

Also really looking forward to explore San Francisco next month and going to the graduation there... I got nominated for the 'student choice award: best walkcycle with personality', which I'm truly excited and honoured about.

Anyway, that's it.. see you guys around. Cheers!

Short film (first blocking pass)

Wow.. it's been a while since I last posted something. Anyway, no excuses.. I was just lazy and didn't had anything worth while to show you guys.

So I've started the the last class of animation mentor. I got my layout done for this film last term (my mentor was Mike Gasaway, who I still knew from my time at DNA..) and now I'm actually animating this sucker.. My mentor this time is Keith Sintay and he is probably one of the funniest mentors I've had so far.

This is my first blocking pass and there are a couple of things that are going to be changed/fixed.

So the things that need to be changed:
- I really don't like the final expression/emotion change in shot 12 (so linear and crappy), I still need to work a lot on that one..

- The cut from shot_09 to 10 isn't working to well yet, I have to go in there and see how I can make that better.

- I'm really starting to dislike the straightening of his shirt on shot_03, and I'm actually thinking of cutting that and going directly in pushing up the glasses. It all feels a bit to forced to me.. to much going on.

- I want to have a bit more of a dissapointed moment after he hangs up the phone in shot_05.. it feels a bit to rushed at that moment. So the frames that I'm going to cut from shot_03 will be added to this shot..

I've only got 8 more weeks to finish it, so wish me luck :)
I know I can't get all these shots to the quality that I want in 8 weeks, but I'm pretty happy with the amount of blocking I've got done in only 3 weeks.

Anyway, thanks for reading and hope to have a new update on this sucker soon.. C ya!

Final (sort of..)

I finished my last assignment last week, and looking back at it there are just so many things that I would have done different in retrospect. I'm just glad that I could fix the body mechanics to this level, but the whole thing just doesn't really do it for me anymore. The good thing is that James is like the best teacher ever (period!). He gives these long critiques on your stuff that's filled with pieces of animtion gold. I'm so glad I have him this term.. Anyway, I'll probably try to fix some stuff over time on this and render out a nice version with the character dressed. But for now, enjoy this one :P

Killzone 2 - final trailer

Ok, for you people that have been following my stuff you might know I'm working on Killzone 2 at the moment. Over time there has been a couple of trailers and gameplay footage on the net, and today the final single player trailer finally hit the net. It's nice to see a lot of people getting excited about the game.. I just hope people will have a great time playing it. We're working hard to get the last things polished so the game can hit the stores in February 2009... Anyway, here it is! (p.s. the last shot with the big machine is animated by me.. just wanted to point that one out :) sorry!)

Class 4 starts

I totally forgot to post my final body animation on this piece at the ending of last term, so I;m just gonna show the new one with some blocked out facial animations. My new mentor for this term is James Chiang and he's such a cool dude. Real hounest and to the point, but also explains a lot about the mechanics behind his critique instead of going "this is wrong, fix it" :) I'm so glad I have him as a mentor this term, and I'm sure this will help my taking my skills to the level that I want them to be.

So anyway, here is my assignment (keep in mind that the facial animation is just in blocking face.. I have the next two weeks to refine it)

Oh yeah, and here is the video reference I taped for my facials. There was some pretty cool stuff in there, altough I did find myself using it not as much as I did for my body mechanics. I went with more gut instinct in the end..

Anyway, enjoy and I'll post this one at the finish line again to see how it turned out ;) C ya..

Monologue assignment

When you first get into Animation Mentor you just can't wait to get to the assignment where you get to work with the famous Bisshop rig. That day has finally come for me :)

We had to choose between three pieces of audio, and start acting them out and planning them. My mentor suggested to go with the one I blocked out here. I never really was into shooting video reference before AM, but I'm starting to see the advantage of it now. In the beginning you're really camere shy, but I'm starting to like it more and more since it's actually helping out a lot in the end.

Anyway, here is the start of it.. and i'm also putting up some of the reference I shot, so you get to see how I make an ass out of myself :) Enjoy!

Pantomime final (sort of..)

Well.. I finished my pantomime assignment the other day for AM. The stupid thing was that an hour before my deadline it was looking pretty damn solid, but decided that I needed some extra spacing towards the end. I thought I selected all the controllers to offset, but it turned out that I didn't had the COG and some others selected. It got totally messed up, but I didn't noticed this untill I started doing some more tweaks and saving. So the whole shot got messed up, and I only had like 30 minutes to fix it... this it what it turned out to be in the end. There is still so much to fix, so hopefully I'll find some spare time and do it..
